Loss

When you lose something, or someone, what does it bring up for you?

noun

the fact or process of losing something or someone

Does it bring up a feeling of anger?

Grief?

Frustration?

Think about it for a few minutes. Do you see these words are negative?

Now do this .... look at the thought behind the feeling.

What is the thought you have about loss?

PANIC

For example, I did this the other week, I lost my keys – got my car keys, house keys, house window lock keys on my key ring.

I normally put them in my bag when I get to the office but the phone rang & a customer turned up as soon as I got in.  I kind of hurriedly pushed things to one side, it wasn’t until lunch time when I wanted to go out that I couldn’t find my keys.

I could feel the panic start to well up as I was absolutely certain I’d put them in my bag.

I dug around & around hoping they’d just materialize from the depths of my small bag.

I emptied the contents of my bag onto the desk – no keys, they weren’t on the floor, in the draw, nowhere.  I remember the customer had come into the office, maybe he’d taken them?

I was telling myself how stupid I was at losing my keys. I was calling myself all manner of negative & quite nasty names.

The more I got frustrated, the more angry I got at myself, the more I spiraled through my thinking.

At this point I’d started shaking thinking s**t where in the world were they?

My heart was beating faster, my stomach felt like it was flipping over.

I slammed my chair into the desk in desperation & heard a “chink”.

I’d found the keys ... in the pocket of my jacket.

THOUGHT

But look at what I’d done to myself with the power of thought.  I’d brought on such a strong physiological response that it took a while for me to calm down.

Isn’t the mind AMAZING?!  That you & you alone can create such a feeling inside yourself.

The trigger was the “lost” keys.  The act of losing said keys didn’t do anything to me, I did something to me in the way I reacted.

I’d created a mild panic attack with the power of my thoughts all because I thought my keys were missing.

Have YOU ever done this?  Interesting isn’t it!
