No Hip Replacement For Me

I’m part of a meetup group for women, I’ve attended a number of events and it’s been a bit of a lifeline for me. I’ve made a lot of new friends of varying ages and I’ve laughed so hard it hurt.

One such laugh was as a result of one lady who will be 79 next birthday.

When she told me, I was lost for words she does not look like she’d be anywhere near her 60’s let alone 79.

I placed her in her late 50’s at most. When I say she takes care of herself, she takes care of herself.

“So what’s your secret then?” I asked her.

CHOICE

“Fun” she responded without hesitation.

She’s not had an easy life by any means yet she has always chosen to look at things differently. She has always chosen to learn from whatever experience she was going through at the time. “I have a choice” she said “I have the gift of free will to either get caught up in the c**p of what is going on or change my outlook. No matter what, I have always had that choice”.

I have a similar outlook. I’ve always said things happen for a reason, there’s a reason for everything, we just have to find it. Sometimes it takes a little time and a bit of digging but it will be there if we just change our perspective.

Not easy to do especially in the heat of the moment but it can be done if we have a mind to.

“There’s got to be something else other than fun though” I said to her.

What she said next made me spray coffee across the table as I dissolved into hysterics along with everyone else.

“Having fun, laughing, dancing and lots of s.e.x too. S.e.x is good for the soul, not to mention your health and keeps your hips flexible, no hip replacement for me!”

Her current boyfriend is 63. I say “current” she’s not entirely sure he can keep up with her. She might be in for a “younger model” as she put it.

I have never laughed so much as I did that day that my abs seriously hurt (apart from when I’ve said some daft things in my Pilates classes).

VALUE

What is your definition of fun? We all have different perspectives on what it means for us.

Is it one of your values?

Is it a high ranking value?

What happens if it’s not honored?
